On Wednesday I woke up knowing I had to get up and collect my Visa for Vietnam. However, I didnt feel in any particular rush (stupid laziness!) until it dawned on me that the next day I was due to go to Paris and thus needed my passport….which was at the Vietnam Embassy!
Now embassies can be a bit particular about their opening hours and it just so happened that the Vietnam embassy closed at 12.30 and that by the time I was about to leave the house my watch said it was 12.05. I had a mental image of arriving at the embassy and being turned away at the gates and told to come back tomorow! Cue in massive rush to the embassy cycling like a maniac through the streets!
When I arrived there was no que and they handed it to me straight away, thus saving me my holiday (which was all booked) and I’d have had to send one of my flatmates on instead. Im sure they’d have been very happy but not too sure about my girlfriend!
p.s Paris was lovely btw albeit very expensive due to criminal exchange rates.

Got a text message today from my sister,
“Have you heard the news about Thailand? Please tell me your not still going there?”
Well I did say to everyone I wanted to be a war photographer for quite a while. I guess if things continue this way, taking my holiday pictures could make my ambition of becoming a war photographer a reality.
Tomorow I have to go and get my visa from the Vietnam embassy. The last time I had to get a visa was when I was 17 from the Chinese embassy. I was with a friend from school who I was going to go travellign with. There was a protest going on outside the embassy, with protestors giving out leaflets. Leaflets were thrust into our hands before we knew what was going on. I realised we could hardly walk into the embassy holding anti-China propraganda. Then cue the greatest search for a bin in the history of man-kind….
Hopefully tomorow will be easier.

Welcome to my blog. Here I will write about my travels through South East Asia in June and July. This is where I will write about my travels/thoughts/general ramblings about my trip. I’ve always wanted to be a travel writer and now its your chance to decided if its a good thing the chances of that ever happening are nearly zero or not!Im not really sure about how to use this software so hopefully I can avoid too many mistakes but I guess thats part of the fun….
Today on BBC news I woke up to the news that the Foreign common wealth office advice not to go to Thailand (link to article) due to “uncertain political future” All I can say is its good I bought my insurance yesterday!”
Anyways its late and I got exams to prepare for so the next message will be a few days before I set out to Bangkok.
Hopefully by then the political situation out there will be a little more stable and so reducing the chances of me getting shot at and other such fun….
